Brey-Krause Fire Extinguisher Bracket R-2020 Installation Into 1999 Boxster

The instructions that come with the BK bracket are pretty well done, so I won't repeat what they already cover. However, I've listed a few things you may want to consider, as well as some installation pictures.

Tools used:

• Ratchet drive with #12 torx female socket to remove and reinstall seat
• Torque wrench to torque seat bolts (if you want to go by the book)
• Drill and bits (to modify bracket under seat, if necessary)
• Phillips head screwdriver (to install BK bracket onto seat and fire extinguisher bracket onto BK bracket)
• Small crescent wrench or open end wrench (to hold nuts when installing BK bracket)

Remove the seats.  As the B-K instructions state, remove the seat. This makes the installation much easier. Seat removal is a snap. Use a #12 female torx socket ($20 a set from Sears) to remove the 4 bolts holding down the seat rails. You can then tip the seat back to gain access to the under side of the seat. The torque value for the four bolts when you reinstall is 48 ft/lbs.

Drill out the two threaded screw holes on the seat. The under side of the seat has a built-in bracket that contains two tapped screw holes. These did not fit the BK bracket very well. I drilled out the extruded tapped areas using a counter sink and then enlarged the screw holes using a 13/64" bit.

Be prepared for a tight fit.  The three attach points for the BK bracket (2 screws and the anchor pin for the support bracket) were not well aligned on my car, resulting in a struggle to get them to fit. You might want to drill holes larger than 13/64" to allow for more play.

Check the sub belt.  I installed a Simpson setup (from Dave Turner Motorsports) at the same time that I installed the fire extinguisher. The sub belt interfered somewhat with the installed fire extinguisher, so you'll have to play around with the belt lengths and tongue locations.

The Result.  Although the necessity for doing seat bracket modifications was frustrating (that's what I paid a little more to avoid), the final result is a nice looking and very functional fire extinguisher mount. The extinguisher doesn't interfere with the seat lock lever or seat movement.
